A note from the founder
I never thought I would have to navigate child support, and when I found myself in that situation, I really didn't know what to expect. There was some embarrassment around it too. It wasn't something I necessarily wanted to talk about.
Once I started the process, I realized how confusing it could be. I read the government websites, researched everything I could and talked to several lawyers. My case involves two states, which made things even more complicated. Even after doing all of that, there were times when I still didn't understand what was happening or what I was supposed to do next.
Some of the most helpful conversations I had were with friends who had been through it themselves. They didn't always tell me something I didn't already know. Sometimes it was just a reminder to keep my messages, get organized, be prepared or not let my emotions drive what I did next. Hearing it from someone who had actually gone through it made a difference. Their support also helped me keep going when I was tired of dealing with the whole thing.
That's a big part of why I built Child Support Friend.
I research and work through complicated information for a living, and I still found this process confusing. You're also taking care of your child and dealing with work, bills and everything else that comes with life. You shouldn't have to spend hours searching through different websites just to figure out what happens next.
I'm not a lawyer, and Child Support Friend isn't a law firm. I built this to help you find the official information, break it down into steps that are easier to understand and hear from parents and professionals who know the process.
Sometimes you need the official answer. Sometimes it just helps to hear from someone who's been there.
I hope this makes it a little easier to understand what may come next.
